Make a Skirt - Two Sessions - Thursday Evening May 22 and 29
Make a Skirt
Just in time for summer, we’ll be making the Skirt No 1 pattern from Sonya Phillip at 100 Acts of Sewing. The skirt is slightly flared with bias cut that hits just below the knee. This is an extremely wearable garment that is simple to sew and sure to become a favorite.
In the class, we’ll talk about sizing, how to lengthen/shorten a pattern, methods of tracing patterns, adding pockets and cutting fabric. We will also go over some good sewing habits and how to read a commercial pattern, seam finishing and making and using bias tape. Finally, we will talk about some tip and tricks for sewing hems and finishing practices. By the end of the class you will have a new skirt and the skills to apply to the next one.
Pattern included in the cost of the class.
This is an easy intermediate class and knowledge of how to use a sewing machine required.
Recommended fabric: - Woven, lightweight cotton lawn or voile, linen, rayon or natural blend fiber. If you buy your fabric at the shop, make sure to mention its for the class to get a 10% discount.
Please purchase and pre-wash all fabric prior to class.
All necessary tools available in the studio for your use. If you have favorite tools, please bring those.
This class is being taught by Sarah Bates, who is a passionate garment sewist who also dabbles in other sewing projects. Sarah loves all things crafty and is always looking for new projects to put her fabric stash to good use. Sarah is an Eagle Rock native, and we’re lucky to have her sharing her skills with us.
