Workshop Description:
We recommend that you complete our Sewing 101 workshop or are an experienced sewist before starting this workshop.
This quilting workshop is designed for beginners who are interested in making their first quilt!
We will discuss fabric selection, cutting techniques, tips and tricks as you assemble your quilt top, “sandwiching” the quilt layers, quilting the quilt and binding.
We’ll provide the pattern. Participants will need to provide their own fabric, thread and batting, which can be purchased in our shop. You’ll get a 10% discount on any class supplies purchased here.

Block of the Month
Want to take your quilting skills to the next level? This block of the month is for you!
Workshop Description:
Over the course of the next several months, we’ll be making Polkadot Chair’s Society Sparkler quilt. The quilt is a vintage inspired sampler quilt comprised of 10 blocks with each block made twice. (The blocks get more complex as your skills increase.)
This month is Block 10.

Are you ready to take your sewing skills to the next level?
Before attending Intermediate Sewing, you must have completed our Sewing 101 class to ensure you have the necessary foundation or have comparable experience.
During workshops we’ll be making a variety of projects for the confident beginner/intermediate sewist, including a drawstring backpack, a strawberry bookend and an ereader/iPad case.
With each project you’ll add new skills to your sewing experience.
In intermediate sewing you’ll also gain confidence in learning how to read patterns, organize your supplies, and work more independently (don’t worry, we’ll still be here to help).
This is a great class to take to prepare for kids garment making classes.

Make a Boxy Top
Want to start your garment making journey? This is the perfect class for you. We’ll be making a size inclusive boxy top using the Shirt No 1 pattern from Sonya Phillip at 100 Acts of Sewing.
In the class, we’ll talk about sizing and pattern adjustments, methods of tracing patterns, and cutting fabric. We will also go over some good sewing habits and how to read a commercial pattern, seam finishing and making and using bias tape. Finally, we will talk about some tip and tricks for sewing hems and finishing practices. By the end of the class you will have a new top and the skills to apply to the next one.
Pattern included in the cost of the class.
Knowledge of how to use a sewing machine required.
Recommended fabric: - Woven, lightweight cotton lawn or voile, linen, rayon or natural blend fiber (thin, slippery fabric not recommended for a first garment). If you buy your fabric at the shop, make sure to mention its for the class to get a 10% discount.
Please purchase and pre-wash all fabric prior to class.
All necessary tools available in the studio for your use. If you have favorite tools, please bring those.
This class is being taught by Sarah Bates, who is a passionate garment sewist who also dabbles in other sewing projects. Sarah loves all things crafty and is always looking for new projects to put her fabric stash to good use. Sarah is an Eagle Rock native, and we’re lucky to have her sharing her skills with us.

Make English Paper Piecing (EPP) Pincushion
Workshop Description:
Whether you're new to EPP or looking to enhance your skills, this class will guide you through the basics while you create your own pincushion.
You will learn the basics of EPP including how to cut and prepare fabric and paper templates. We'll talk about hand stitching techniques for assembling shapes and tips for fussy cutting and achieving perfect points.
We'll provide what you need but feel free to bring your own fabric if you have some favorites you'd like to use.
Whether you’re here to learn something new or to take time for yourself, this class is designed to inspire and relax.

Week 2 - Continue working on your tote bag. We’ll talk about which sides of the fabric to sew on, how the assembly works and practice top stitching.
Week 3 - Make a custom pillowcase while continuing to practice sewing straight seams. We’ll finish it off with French seams.
Week 4 - Zippers! They aren’t as hard as you think and we’ll learn some basics while you make a zipper pouch. You’ll also learn about boxed corners.

Make a Tiered Skirt
Learn to sew a custom-to-you tiered skirt! Choose your fabric and length for the skirt that you want to make. We will measure and design our skirts with a little bit of math. We will learn a few different techniques to gather fabric and finish our seams.
Please bring 3 to 4 yards of pre-washed woven fabrics. Check out garment fabrics available in the shop! If you buy your fabric at the shop, make sure to mention its for the class to get a 10% discount.
